Old Post Card From the Edge?
My goodness.
-
I do not usually collect old post cards, but this one from April 1914 caught my eye and intrigued me, so I coughed up 50 cents:
-
-
--------To The One
-
-----------------I Love
-
----------In the spring a young man's fancy
-
-------------Lightly turns to thoughts of love.
-
-
I do believe that the young Mary and Hugo were setting up an assignation, to take place in Fremont, Ohio.
-
The dashed-off handwritten message:
--
-
--------Will come to Fremont tomorrow afternoon on the train if I
--------don't get any other chance. Meet me at Sucy's (?) tomorrow
--------evening.
-
-------------------------Mary.
-
-
I wonder if Mary ever made it to Fremont? Or did the United States Post Office fail the two lovers and star-crossed their plans by flubbing up the mail delivery?
-
This fragile piece of cardboard, obviously saved all these years, is now in my hands.
-
I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I have thought about Googling Hugo Wasserman to see what I find.
-
Burning question: Did Mary marry Hugo? Or were they married to others?
-
We'll never know.

Snark Alert! National Lampoon 1964 High School Yearbook: Blast from the Past
I don't know if the notorious (at least by 1974 standards) yearbook qualifies as literature, but it's a must-read snark classic. Any time I feel down and out, I whip this classic out and reread. Never fails: I crack up--depression gone.
-
It retains a permanent home on my nightstand and over the years has made several moves with me around the country.

These photos are scans from my own personal copy.
-ORIGINAL!
-
NOT FOR SALE!
-
DON'T EVEN ASK!
-
My ex-husband gave this to me for Christmas 1974; we have since divorced, both remarried to others. My copy has my old last name and address (where my ex still lives, so I had better not lose my copy!).
-I see that Amazon sells the 39th anniversary edition. If you have ever gone to high school, you'll identify and identify with the archetypes, albeit from the 1964 and 1974 perspective. If you can't snag a copy of the original, the anniversary issue may be an option.
-
Best wishes,

Snark Lit Blog
Ms. Snark has developed this blog so that readers can submit their opinions on and reviews of their favorite "Snark Lit" books.-
What is "Snark Lit"?
-
A Snark Lit book is slighty to over-the-top snide, satirical, and/or sarcastic; however, Snark Lit must also be funny and important. The original Snark Lit classic is Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark.
-
A book description on Amazon notes,
-
"It's a Snark! '...for whatever else can it be?’ Published on April Fools' Day in 1876, Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark remains one of the most amusing and bizarre works of modern verse. Carroll, who completed this classic poem eleven years after the publication of Alice in Wonderland, invites readers along on a fictitious hunt to determine who—or what—the Snark actually is..."
