My goodness.
-
I do not usually collect old post cards, but this one from April 1914 caught my eye and intrigued me, so I coughed up 50 cents:
-
-
--------To The One
-
-----------------I Love
-
----------In the spring a young man's fancy
-
-------------Lightly turns to thoughts of love.
-
-
I do believe that the young Mary and Hugo were setting up an assignation, to take place in Fremont, Ohio.
-
The dashed-off handwritten message:
--
-
--------Will come to Fremont tomorrow afternoon on the train if I
--------don't get any other chance. Meet me at Sucy's (?) tomorrow
--------evening.
-
-------------------------Mary.
-
-
I wonder if Mary ever made it to Fremont? Or did the United States Post Office fail the two lovers and star-crossed their plans by flubbing up the mail delivery?
-
This fragile piece of cardboard, obviously saved all these years, is now in my hands.
-
I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I have thought about Googling Hugo Wasserman to see what I find.
-
Burning question: Did Mary marry Hugo? Or were they married to others?
-
We'll never know.
